John Randolph ("Randy") Calvert, M.D., 82, died on June 28, 2014. He was a native of Natchez, Miss., and Concordia Parish, Louisiana, where he grew up on the family farm.
He graduated from Washington and Lee University in Virginia and the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Randy practiced anesthesiology in Atlanta for 40 years, and after retirement moved first to Natchez to care for his mother, then after her death he moved in 2004 to Prescott.
He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, where he served in several ministries, including the Bell Choir and Vestry. He was a member of the Geology Club and the Prescott Mac Users Group, and he enjoyed classes and trips sponsored by Yavapai and Prescott Colleges and traveled to many foreign countries.
He is survived by his wife, Carol A. Hubert; four children by his first marriage, David Roll Calvert, Catherine Randolph (Thomas) Fitzgerald, Suzanne (Nick) Scarmackand Samuel Hornsby Calvert II; three grandchildren, Sarah Maynes, Emily and Jack Fitzgerald; two great-grandchildren, Rowan and Cian Maynes; and former wives, Catherine Roll Calvert and Nancy Clark.
Randy donated his body to Science Care. His ashes will, at a later date, be interred in Natchez, Miss., in a family plot. A memorial service in Prescott will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2014, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Luke's, the Friends of the Prescott Public Library, or the Smoki Museum.
