Howard Hooke Sr., cherished father, husband, grandpa, uncle and friend, was born in San Carlos on Jan. 10, 1926, and peacefully entered into heaven’s gates on Aug. 21, 2009 at the HealthCare Odyssey in Mesa, Ariz. He was surrounded by his loving family.
He was a proud World War II veteran, a retired rancher, and enjoyed being with his family. Dad, you will truly be missed but never forgotten. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Rhea Hooke; and his brother, Donald Bendle.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Nancy P. Hooke; 11 children, Charlene Brown (Tommie), Howard Hooke Jr., Hardt Hooke Sr. (Brenda), Harding Hooke (Lanell) of Payson, Simon Hooke (Saralyn), Samuel Hooke (Carol), Malcolm Hooke (Sally), Cheryl M. Mull (Marvin), Karen Talgo (Wallace), Peggy Cassa (George), and Cassandra Villegas (Steve) of Globe; 40 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; his sister, Sally Antonio; and his brother, Christopher Bendle.
Services will be held starting with a vigil (wake) on Friday, Aug. 28, 2009 at 4 p.m. where he resided in Lower Peridot.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 10 a.m. at Burdette Hall in San Carlos, followed by interment at the Veterans Cemetery in San Carlos. Luncheon will be served at the Hooke’s residence in Lower Peridot. Assisting the family is Safford Funeral Home.
