Leonard Michael Romero of Scottsdale, Ariz., passed away June 30, 2014, under the care of Orangewood Assisted Loving Home and Hospice of the Valley.
Leonard was born in Albuquerque, N.M., on Sept. 28, 1943, to Flavio and Dolores Romero.
Leonard is preceded in death by his parents; his son Gregory; and two brothers, Lionel and Norman.
Leonard graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1961, and earned his bachelor's degree in English from New Mexico State University. He was an SAE Fraternity member, and played second base for the NMSU Aggies. Leonard was drafted into the Army in 1966, and completed Officer Candidate School training at Ft. Knox, Ky. He went on to serve his country as a 2nd Lieutenant, training troops to serve in Vietnam conflict. He was stationed at Fort Polk, La. for three years. In 1969, Leonard worked with Prescott Valley Inc. as a real estate executive, traveling throughout the United States. He then became owner/operator of White Eagle Hishi, a Southwest Indian arts and crafts business. He loved hunting, fly-fishing, sports, coaching his boys' baseball and football teams, watching ESPN and music!
Leonard is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mark Jason and Laura Romero of Silver Spring, Md.; Merrily Romero (mother of Mark and Greg) from Scottsdale, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Matthew and Clara; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Marilyn Romero of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; many nephews and nieces, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. He will be missed.
Leonard's military services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014, at the Prescott National Cemetery in Prescott, Ariz., with Farewell services handled by Sacred heart Catholic Church.
