Been, 88, of Chino Valley, Ariz., born Oct. 30, 1925, in Chicago, Ill., passed away July 6, 2014, at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Hospice. His parents were Frederic and Catherine Pearl (Lamond) Been. He attended Arizona State University and served four years in the U.S. Army and 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. John was with the Chandler Police Force from August 1965 to August 1985, when he retired. He received several voluntary awards from the Prescott VA, where he volunteered five days a week for more than 24 years. John was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra E. Diay, and his parents, Frederic and Catherine Pearl Been. He is survived by his sons, Robert A. Been and Victor K. Redoak; his daughters, Sharon E. Nielsen and Cheryl E. Angel; his loving grandchildren; and his dog, Smokey. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at Prescott VA Chapel, 500 Highway 89N, Building 152, Prescott, Ariz.
