Prescott Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Territory Tuesday, December 1, 1891 Lane - In Prescott, in the fifty-third year of her age of heart failure, Mrs. E. Lane. Deceased came to Prescott in 1876. Was the mother of the Merritt brothers, and leaves three sons and a daughter to mourn their sad loss. She was a devoted mother and a devout Christian, was widely known and much esteemed by our people, who sincerely sympathize with the bereaved. It was her dying request that she buried beside her daughter, Sarah Marlow, deceased, in Williamson Valley. Funeral takes place from the family residence on South McCormick Street at 10:30 a.m. today. (unreadable) Williamson Valley. --------------------------------------- Weekly Arizona Journal Miner, Prescott, Arizona Territory Wednesday, December 2, 1891, page 3, column 2 (From Fridays Daily) Mrs. Lane, mother of George and John Merritt, died at her residence in West Prescott this morning. Deceased was 53 years old and came to Prescott about two months ago from Agua Fria on account of ill health. She came to Arizona in 1876 and she resided here every since. She leaves two sons and one daughter. In accordance with her request her remains will be taken to Williamson Valley. Transcriber's note: Mrs. Merritt is buried in an unmarked grave at the Las Vegas Ranch in Northern Yavapai County with a son and daughter.
