The Wickenburg Sun, Wickenburg, Arizona Wednesday, July 16, 2014 Jerry Barbara (Gibson) Hanger passed away June 26 at her home in Tishomingo, Okla., after a six-month battle with cancer. She was born May 2, 1932 in Owensboro, Ky., to James Barbour Gibson and Myrtle Louise (Rouse) Gibson. Her father was a test driver for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio, and in 1933, the family transferred to Goodyear’s winter site in Litchfield Park, Ariz. Jerry attended elementary and two years of high school there. In 1947, Jerry’s junior year, the Gibson family moved to Wickenburg to buy the Greyhound Bus Depot. She graduated from Wickenburg High School in 1949. In high school, she played tennis, was a band drum majorette, and played the saxophone. Jerry was extremely artistic and decided to pursue a commercial art degree at Woodbury College in Los Angeles, Calif. While at home recuperating from a ruptured appendix, she met a handsome young Arizona highway patrolman at her parents’ bus depot. She and Bill Hanger were married in Las Vegas, Nev., on Oct. 19, 1952. Jerry and Bill were members of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Wickenburg and the Presbyterian Church in Yarnell. She was active in Eastern Star, Girl Scouts, Wranglerettes, Yarnell Library Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels, Home Makers, being a hockey mom, and the official unofficial poster maker for many community events. Jerry is survived by a sister Sandi Hartman and husband Jim of Wickenburg; daughter Nellie and son-in-law Craig of Milburn, Okla.; son Jeff Hanger and wife Carolyn of Center Moriches, N.Y.; four grandchildren: Tyler Garone and wife Lindsey, Chris Garone, Brooke Hanger and J.T. Hanger; and two great-grandsons: Gabriel Garone and Jaxston Garone. Her husband, parents, older sister Carolyn, and infant daughter Holly preceded her in death. At Jerry’s request, there was no service.
