FORREST,
Robert
ouglas Dispatch (AZ) - Wednesday, July 13, 2005
Deceased Name: Robert Forrest, Sr.,
Robert Forrest, Sr., born March 7, 1950, a life long resident of Douglas was called home to the Lord on July 7, 2005.
Robert served the community for almost 30 years in the medical field as an emergency room RN, and later as a Physicians Assistant at SAMC hospital. Robert also worked with doctors Rhema Sayers, Mari Rowe and Jose Romo at different clinics before he was forced into early retirement due to illness.
Robert served several years in the Army National Guard in the early to mid 70's while employed by Phelps Dodge reduction works. Following a back injury, he decided to go into the medical field where he later accomplished his goal of becoming a physicians assistant. Those who knew Robert (Sugar Bear), know that he never had anything but kind words to say about anyone. As a P.A. Robert helped many people in the community. Robert couldn't say no to anyone. On many occasions if a patient could not afford to pay for the office visit, or the prescription, he would take that cost himself. He truly was the type of person that would give you the shirt off his back.
Robert never needed or wanted any special recognition for the many good deeds he did for others. What he wanted was to help someone, and hopefully make a difference. He was always pulling for the youth in the community, and for his family. Robert was also involved with the 4-H, AJRA and the high school rodeo. He was involved with the JR achievement program for several years during his medical career and tried to get young people interested in the nursing field. There are many other areas that he served, and gave of his time, but his fondest would have been the Douglas Association for Retarded Citizens (DARC), where he would assist with may of their activities.
Robert enjoyed the outdoors, the hunting, fishing, camping and horseback riding. He enjoyed the rodeo very much. He took great pride and pleasure assisting and coaching as well. If Robert wasn't at the office on any given day, you always knew where he could be found.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Sr. and Lucia Forrest and by his grandmother, Esther Manzo.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 32 years, Veronica Gutierrez Forrest; sons, Robert E. (Nellie), Gene C. (Clarissa); daughter Alisa Dawn Forrest. He also leaves behind three granddaughters who will miss him dearly, Veronica, Ashley and Larissa. Robert is also survived by his brothers, Henry Jr., Edward and his sister Margaret. He leaves behind his father and mother-in-law, Jose Pedro and Reina Gutierrez, as well as many, many nephews, nieces, compadres, comadres and his loyal Chihuahua companion, Killer.
Robert was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. The Lord blessed him with the grace to meet the needs of others and even though his time here on earth was short lived, he accomplished a lot of good things in that period of time. The Lord chose a good caregiver. His time on this earth has come to an end and now he goes home to be with the Lord. We release him to continue his work in Heaven. Robert, we love you very much and you will be dearly missed.
