Ben O. Carbajal, 82, of Casa Grande died Jan. 21, 2009 at Park Regency Care Center in Chandler.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, with rosary recited at 11. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Mr. Carbajal was born Sept. 29, 1926 in Tucson and was a son of Bentura V. Carbajal and Michaela Ochoa and stepson of Jesus Moran. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked for Arizona Public Service Co. for 42 years and retired as a foreman. He was very active in and served as secretary of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 387.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Church and volunteered through St. Vincent de Paul Society, which he served as vice president. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved Arizona sports teams, including the Diamondbacks, Suns, Cardinals and University of Arizona. He loved fishing, camping and spending time at his cabin in Lakeside. He also loved music, dancing and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Stella M.; two sons, Raymond Carbajal of Casa Grande and Bentura Carbajal Jr. of Mesa; two stepsons, Larry Mendoza of Casa Grande and Jesse Mendoza of Lott, Texas; a stepdaughter, Elizabeth Rodriguez of Casa Grande; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lupe Nunez, and his first wife, Nellie.
