Eastern Arizona Courier (Safford, AZ) - Tuesday, January 21, 2003 Deceased Name: Jose Vega Jose Vega, 65, of Dun-can passed away Jan. 6, 2003. Jose was born Sept. 18, 1937, in Duncan. He grew up in Morenci where he liked to hunt, fish and camp as a child. He graduated from Morenci High School and joined the Marines. After he got out of the Marines, he worked for Phelps Dodge for 42 years until his retirement in 1999. After his retirement he moved to Duncan and married Bobbie McGrath. Jose is survived by his wife, Bobbie Vega of Duncan, children, Jose Vega Jr., Martin Vega, Mary Vega Mejia and Richard Vega, all of Phoenix; JoAnn Martinez, Alvira Newell, Rebecca Camacho and Robert Gonzales, all of Safford; Katherine Gonzales of Clifton; Phillip Gonzales of Safford; Edward Gonzales of Pima; Patricia Randall of Clifton; Madeline Roach of Tucson; Sharon Welker of Safford; Gary Welker of Duncan; Joseph McGrath of Pima; 39 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernardo and Gumesinda Vega, and his second wife, Josephine Vega of Morenci. Visitation for Jose was Jan. 13 at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morenci. Rosary and Mass followed.Arrangements for services were under the direction of Morris David's Safford Funeral Home.
