Death Summons A Prominent Pioneer
Daniel Dwyer Passes Away At The Old Homestead
Deceased Was A Man Who Was Highly Esteemed
Daniel Dwyer, one of the older residents of this section, and who since the early seventies has made his home in Prescott, yesterday died at the old family residence on North Alarcon street.
For many months past, Mr. Dwyer was known to have been ailing, and some few weeks since was confined to his bed because of a stroke of paralysis. With his age as a drawback to recovery he gradually failed after this first shock, and yesterday at the old family home occupied by Henry Suder and wife, he quietly passed away.
The house in which he saw his last moments is in a way a landmark among the better of the earlier residences on the hill, and was one of but three or four that were then in existence at the time he built it. Mrs. Henry Suder is one of three daughters he leaves to mourn his death, and it was with her and her husband that he spent the declining years of his life.
He was about 65 years of age, and in the days when Prescott was a frontier town, he was known among the more prominent men of this section of the territory. Last evening when inquiry was made about the city among the older residents it was learned that he had always been generally beloved by the people of pioneer days.
Various incidents of the life of the deceased were on the tongues of all who spoke of him,m and the most sincere regret was heard from all sides a this demise.
Mrs. Ray Hill, wife of the manager of the Hill Hardware company, is another daughter of the deceased, and the many friends of this branch of the family join in expressing their deep felt sympathy at the death of Mr. Dwyer. The wife of J. H. Daley is a third daughter of the deceased.
Daniel Dwyer was a carpenter by trade and in the frontier days was occupied with that business. Later, after having grown too old to work at his trade he opened a mercantile establishment, but it was while conducting this place that his health compelled him to sell out and take up a more active occupation. His name is connected with all of the business affairs of importance in the earlier history of this section, and as one old friend last evening remarked, 'he was at one tine the best known man in Arizona.'
The H. M. Maus Undertaking Co. has the remains in charge, and the funeral will be held from the family home, 142 North Alarcon street, this afternoon at 2:30.
The death of Daniel Dwyer is mourned by all his host of friends throughout the county, and the most heartfelt sympathy is freely expressed among them for those who survive to bear the burden of his loss.
