Kathryn Irene Cromley was born on March 19, 1935, in Mahoning County,
Ohio. She passed away on July 22, 2014 in Las Vegas.
Her parents, James August Greier and Marian Adella (Wetzel) Greier,
preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Kenneth Harlan Cromley of
Kingman; her children, Marian Wrage (Eric) of Rio Rancho, N.M., Patricia
Holt (Michael) of Chatham, Ill., Margaret Cromley of Portland, Ore., and
Paul Cromley (Vittoria) of Bear, Del.; and her grandchildren, Kelsey
Holt of Collinsville, Ill., and Nathan Holt of Louisville, Ky.
She is also survived by siblings Mary Alice Trull of Leesburg, Fla.,
Winifred Louise Waithman of Beloit, Ohio, Robert Wayne Greier (Jeanette)
of Salem, Ohio, and James William Greier, also of Salem.
Kate, as she was known by friends and family, grew up in Ohio where she
graduated as valedictorian from Sebring High School in 1953. She went on
to get her bachelor's degree in Education from Youngstown State
University. Later in life, she obtained a masters from Northern Arizona
University.
After teaching several years in Ohio, she and Ken moved about the
country and fell in love with the Southwest. They lived in Scottsdale
for many years and it was there that she got back into teaching. She
went on to teach for many years in Bullhead City. She and Ken finally
settled into a house they built outside of Kingman and she continued to
work for several years as a substitute in the area.
Kate was active in AAUW and DAR for many years but her passion was with
Girl Scouts. She volunteered her time for over 45 years and was awarded
the Thanks Badge Award in 2010 for her years of service. Kate had many
roles over the years; leader, co-leader, neighborhood manager, council-
wide trainer and board member. She exposed her troops to many activities
including hiking in the Grand Canyon. Her most recent troop was near her
home outside the Kingman area where there are very few opportunities
available like those she and Girl Scouting provided.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory
to the Arizona Cactus Pine Girl Scout Council, Attn: Fund Development,
119 E Coronado Road, Phoenix, AZ 85004 or at friends.girlscoutsaz.org
