VALENTE, Linda Lee

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 08/05/2014 Linda Lee Valente died July 23, 2014, in Show Low. She was born May 7, 1943, the daughter of Roy Charles Lee McCurry and Annie Oneida Halle McCurry. Linda was baptized at the age of 12 at Bethany Baptist Church in Inglewood, Calif., and graduated from Lenox High School in Inglewood. After graduation, she attended beauty college in Los Angeles, Calif. Linda started her working life as a hair dresser and remained in that field for 10 years. She married Dennis Fred Valente Sept. 22, 1963, at Bethany Baptist Church in Inglewood, Calif. In 2013 they celebrated 50 years of marriage. She became a mother in 1973 and volunteered in the San Marcos Unified School District. She did so well she was offered a job as an instructional aid and remained working there for 20 years. In 1998 she retired and moved with her husband, Dennis to Show Low. After receiving treatment for breast cancer at Summit Healthcare, she became a volunteer at the hospital in IV therapy and mammography for 13 years. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Fred Valente; daughter Melody Hermes; and grandson John Hermes of Escondido, Calif.
