Vistoso Funeral Home, Oro Valley, Arizona Valetta May "Vee" Griffin May 23, 1925 - July 30, 2014 Valetta May Griffin “Vee”, age 89, joined her Lord in Heaven on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, in the presence of family. Beloved wife of Jerald Griffin for 70 years, they lived in the Tucson area for 27 years, the last 17 in Oro Valley. Born in Waterford Village, MI, to Bert and Helene Batchelor, Vee married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Griffin, in 1943. As a war-time bride, she moved during his training and service to IA, FL, CA, and TX. During Jerry’s career with Dow Corning she lived in Midland, MI and Greensboro, NC and traveled around the world with him on business trips. Adventurous, creative, and intelligent, she enjoyed trail-riding on the Golden Palomino Jerry gave her on their 50th wedding anniversary, did some sky diving, worked on a cattle drive in Laredo, Tx, and went white-water rafting. A self-taught naturalist, she served as a docent at Tohono Chul Park. In Michigan she was a Girl Scout leader, sang in the choir at Aldersgate UMC, was active in Church Women United, coordinated relief for migrant workers, taught sewing on the Chippewa Reservation, and taught poetry and creative writing classes in the county jail. She studied the Bible her whole adult life and wrote study materials covering a broad spectrum of Biblical subjects which she shared with many Bible study groups. Beloved wife of Jerry Griffin, cherished mother of Steve Griffin (d.), Kathleen Fenwick (TX), Christine Griffin-Woods (IN) and Janet Potts (KY), grandmother of 10 and great-grandmother of 11. Sister of Everett Batchelor (d.), Fern Pomeraning (d.), June LeBeau (d.) and Betty Allen, all of Michigan. Aunt of 33 nieces and nephews.
