Norvel Owens Mortuary, Flagstaff, Arizona Ruth Carolyn Bland (May 10, 1932 - August 6, 2014) Ruth C. Bland passed away August 6, 2014 in Flagstaff, AZ. Ruth was born in Scandia, PA on May 10, 1932 the youngest of the eight children in the Luther and Esther Anderson clan. Her mother noted in her diary that day, “Nothing special - Sunny.” Ruth attended it’s one room school house then graduating from Warren High School. Ruth then went to Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago where she graduated from the School of Nursing as a Register Nurse. She met Frank in June of 1952 and they married before he graduated from medical school in 1954. She worked as a head nurse while Frank interned at Akron General Hospital. They moved to Tuba City working for the Public Health Service in July 1955. After a stint in Denver they settled in Phoenix. Here they raised their two sons, Michael and Bill. Ruth returned to nursing part time in 1973 working in critical care. They relocated to Flagstaff in 1990 as they prepared for retirement. She was very involved in the community extending from serving as a Cub Scout Den mother to Hospice. She was active in the Squaw Peak Covenant Church in Phoenix and the Church of the Resurrection in Flagstaff where a remembrance service will be held Tuesday August 12th at 11AM. Ruth is survived by her two sons Mike and Bill and grandsons Wes, Colby and Liam. In lieu of flowers, although she loved to arrange them, we request that donations be made to Northland Hospice. P.O.
