Willard "Bill" Stevane, age 72, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, at Copper Mountain Inn in Globe, Ariz., surrounded by loving family members of Peridot. Bill was born in Danbury, Conn. to Willard Stevane, Sr. and Lillian Stevane, and grew up in Bridgeport, Conn.
Bill attended grade school, eventually graduating from High School in Bridgeport, Conn. After high school he attended St. Thomas Seminary in hopes of entering the priesthood. Due to the Vietnam Draft, Bill enlisted and served 8 years in the U.S Air Force. While in the Air Force, Bill was stationed in Montana, becoming a licensed pilot where he flew his own plane.
After leaving the Air Force Bill pursued his passion of Culinary Art training under Dwight D. Eisenhower’s executive chef. The profession led Bill to many job opportunities where he met Geraldine, eventually marrying on Oct. 26, 2001. They eventually made Peridot their home in 2005.
Bill was well known in the community and helped out family and friends when needed. He enjoyed sightseeing, fishing, and loved the desert scenery. Bill always called the area God's country.
Bill leaves behind in loving memory his wife, Geraldine Stevane; stepsons, Timothy and Walter Lomahaftewa; sons, Willard (Dawn) Stevane, Jr. of Connecticut, Blake Stevane, of Colorado, and Nathan Stevane; daughter, Maryanne Merriman, of Connecticut; sisters, Ellen Stevane, of Flordia; Margaret Wharton of Colorado, and Janet Stevane of Connecticut. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Lillian Stevane; daughter, Lillian Sowine, and sisters, Laraine McDevitt and Susan Stevane-Payton.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Grace Luthern Church in San Carlos, Ariz.
