Frances Robinson Conner Figueroa died on Aug. 6, 2014, at Banner Hospice in Sun City West. She was born Jan. 24, 1919, to Thomas Charles and Essie Mabel Robinson in Hannibal, Mo. Frances resided in Yuma from 1947 until moving to Wickenburg in 2012.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband Lewis O. Conner in 1977. She married Robert M. Figueroa in 1986. Robert died in 2010.
She is survived by daughters Susan Conner Goodman (Vern) of Wickenburg and Catherine Conner McDade (Michael) of Beaverton, Ore. Frances has four grandchildren, Amy Catherine Goodman of Portland Ore., Joel Lewis Goodman (Kelley) of Niseko Japan, Paul Curtis Goodman of Bend Ore., and Stephanie Ann Goodman (Joshua Sylce) of Eagle, Idaho. She has two great-grandchildren (parents Joel and Kelley), Conner Lewis Goodman and Madison Emma Goodman; and a nephew Pat Conner (Jeanne) of Yuma. She is also survived by three step-children, Kay Figueroa, Mattie Mills and Yile Figueroa.
Frances graduated from Hannibal La Grange College, received a degree in education from the University of Missouri, Columbia and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.
She taught high school home economics in St. Louis, Mo., before marrying Lewis at the end of World War II in 1946.
Frances was an active member of the Yuma community. She was an over 50 year member of both the P.E.O. Sisterhood and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. At St. Paul’s she taught Sunday school for 14 years and was active in their ECW women’s group.
In addition, she was a charter member of the Yuma Golf and Country Club, a long time volunteer with Hospice of Yuma, and a member of the Women’s League of the Yuma Fine Arts Association. Frances served as an officer of her garden club and on the board of directors for the Camp Fire Girls. She loved to travel, swim and ride bicycles.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1550 S. 14th Ave. in Yuma, on Thursday, Aug. 28.
