Norvel Owens Mortuary, Flagstaff, Arizona Jose "Joe" Becerra (December 22, 1937 - August 20, 2014) Joe Becerra, Born 22 December 1937, passed away 20 August 2014, Chef Joe Becerra worked in many restaurants in Arizona and across the country such as the Gables, Granny’s Closet, Red Bull, Jahas, Little America, Poco Diabo, Salt Lake City Utah, San Diego, Marriott, and Sodexo. Spending more than 25 years at Marriott, which later was changed over to Sodexo at Northern Arizona University. He managed and trained countless people in the art of cooking, and some became good cooks and chefs. He managed the Arizona Cardinals menu when they came up to Flagstaff for training camp. Which included breakfast, lunch and dinner, and snacks. Chef Joe Becerra retired from Sodexo at NAU in Dec 2009, due to his health. During his cooking career he met movie stars, professionals, and political people. His inspiration to cook, came when he serviced in the Arizona National Guard, at Ft. Huachuca, AZ. Even thou he was bit by a scorpion three times while in the guard it only gave him strength to continue to be a chef. Many people made great comments how good his food was, and to give away the secret or the touch he had to make food so great. He is proceeded in death by his dad, Jose Becerra, mother Maria R. Frias, his sister Maria L. Marcilla. Survived by his two sons, Ignacio Becerra, and Alonzo Becerra both of Flagstaff, Two step children Vernon of Page, AZ, and LeAnn of Wyoming. Two Nephews, Joe and Max Marcilla, of Flagstaff and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Chef Joe Becerra always supported Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. He will be missed for his fine dining and great stories. Mass will be 10:00 Monday, August 25th at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are by Norvel Owens Mortuary.
