The Payson Roundup, Payson, Arizona, Friday, August 29, 2014 Flora “Flo” Lois Engle (Gilson) June 12, 1942 - August 22, 2014 Flo (age 72) went home with the Lord on Aug 22, 2014. She was born June 12, 1942 to Samuel Gilson and Rose Clem in Camp Verde, Ariz. She was a lifelong resident of Arizona and a Payson pioneer. She was the eldest member of the Tonto Apache Tribe at the time of her passing. Flo attended Clarkdale High School in Clarkdale, Ariz. She enrolled in Phoenix School of Cosmetology and graduated in 1972, came back to Payson to start working for Lily’s Beauty Salon that same year. She eventually moved to the all-new Lemon Tree Hair Design when it opened its doors in 1975, finally retiring after 30 plus years as a licensed beautician. Flo’s extracurricular activities included being a former member of the Payson Pro Rodeo Committee, Moose Lodge of Payson, and proud member of the Tonto Apache Tribe (TAT) Women’s softball team which won a couple of Town of Payson championship crowns in the 1980s. She was an avid collector of Coca-Cola products and stuffed dolls. Her biggest joy was having her family around during the holidays or special events. She was hard-working, well-respected and a lovable human being in the Rim Country; she will be greatly missed by family, friends and all who got to experience her quick wittedness and gentle sense of humor. We have all been blessed by having Flo come into our lives! You are in God’s hands now and we could not be more proud of that fact; have a beautiful journey!
