George Carlos Crandell, 74, died Aug. 27, 2014, in Mesa following a lengthy illness. He was born July 6, 1940 in the small rural town of Clay Springs to Horace and Malinda Cheney Crandell.
Carlos graduated from Snowflake Union High School. He served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He attended and graduated from Arizona State University.
After his education, Carlos was a schoolteacher. In 1968 he had the opportunity to teach school in his hometown. He taught a large class of eighth graders. His students loved him very much—a true delight for them.
He also worked as a block mason and as a custodian for the LDS church. Carlos was a resident of Mesa for 43 years.
Carlos had a great sense of humor. He was a good and humble man. He was a hard worker and a loving husband and father. Carlos loved to cook and grow a garden.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughter Melanie Crandell; sons Jeffrey (Tonya), Logan Crandell, Austin Crandell and John Crandell; and Jeff and Tonya’s five children; sister Hope Crandell Davis; and brothers Kirk Crandell and Albert Crandell.
A viewing for Carlos will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at Meldrum Mortuary in Mesa. Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 6, at the LDS church in Clay Springs. A viewing will be held from 10-10:45 a.m. with services beginning at 11 a.m.
Interment will be held at the Clay Springs Cemetery.
