Benny “Gene” Eugene Barton, 85, passed away Aug. 27, 2014. He was born
to the late Wiley and Edith Freeman March 7, 1929 in Old Hickory, Tenn.
Gene proudly grew up in Bowling Green, Ky. He married Phyllis Joan
Loseke in Gem, Kan., during the summer of 1960 and moved to Alexandria,
Va. Before Gene’s retirement, he worked as an office machine technician
and supervisor for the General Services Administration, in Washington,
DC. He even worked in the White House and on Air Force One as well as
many of the government departments and offices. They both retired and
settled in Arizona in 1984.
Gene enjoyed golfing, collecting music and sharing CD’s. He also was a
bass guitar player for dance bands while living in Washington, DC.
He was a member of St. Michaels United Methodist Church and the London
Bridge Golf Club, serving on the board of directors from 1984 through
1987 and a former member of the London Bridge Rotary Club, where he was
the first “Member of the Year” in 1989-90.
Gene is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Phyllis of Lake Havasu
City; daughter-in-law, Suzanne (Art) Hinton of Vancouver, Wash.;
grandchildren, Miranda (Jesse) Richards of Frisco, Texas and Nathan
Eugene Barton of Las Vegas, Nev., as well as great-grandchildren,
Angelina and Alexandria, also of Frisco, Texas.
Preceded in death were Gene’s son, Neal Eugene Barton and sister, Helen
Roberson, as well as his parents.
A Celebration of Life service for Gene will be at St. Michaels United
Methodist Church, Saturday, Sept. 6, at 10 a.m.
Services were placed in the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
