John Edward Dexter “Jack”, 68, of Flagstaff passed away September 5, 2014. He was born December 3, 1945 in Boston, Massachusetts. At the age of 7 his family moved to Arizona. He graduated from Paradise Valley High School. After graduation he proudly served in the Vietnam War with the US Coast Guard as Gunner Mate 2.
John graduated from Northern Arizona University School of Engineering. Right out of college he went to work for Air Research now known as Honeywell where he worked till retirement in 2001. Throughout the years he would escape to Flagstaff, after retirement he made Flagstaff his permanent home.
He enjoyed his time reading everything from Motor-Trend magazines to books about Arizona, taking hikes to Pumphouse Wash, and through the Northern Arizona Bird Sanctuary near his home. He also found joy in metal detecting, his big Dodge truck, walking Copper, visiting casinos, and the sand and sounds of the ocean. John was a generous man, always thinking of others. He would donate his Christmas bonus to the Make-A-Wish foundation each year.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Ann Dexter, Daughter Tammy Sue Dexter, grandchildren Percy and Dustee, father Ralph Dexter, sister Susan Tuchscher, nephews Casey and Colby, Linda’s brother Robert Canova and his best four legged pal Copper. John was also blessed with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Diane Lea Dexter and his mother Mary Elizabeth Dexter.
A celebration of his life will be Thursday, September 11th, 11am at Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E. Route 66, Flagstaff, AZ. In lieu of flowers family requests donations be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation or to the Coconino County Humane Society.
