Gary P. Koontz, 71, passed away Sept. 17, 2014. He was born in Monterey
Park, Calif. Dec. 21, 1942 to Noel and Leila Koontz. Gary was raised in
Southern California.
After graduating high school, he attended a four-year trade school.
After thirty years working for Heat/Frost Asbestos Workers Union, Local
#5, he retired as a journeyman. He and wife, Mary, moved to Lake Havasu
City, six years ago to enjoy their retirement years. Gary was a super
fan of NASCAR, his favorite driver was Jimmy Johnson, #48. He also
enjoyed drag racing, boating, skiing, bowling and snooker billiards.
Gary loved the thunder and lightning from the storms and the smell of
the desert after the rain.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Mary; sons, Aaron
Koontz and Joshua Koontz; daughter, Teresa Bock; brothers, Clyde Koontz,
Rick Koontz, and Kenny Koontz.He also leaves behind ten grandchildren,
as well as, two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his
parents, Noel and Leila Koontz and his brother, Stan Koontz.
“Gary will be deeply missed by the many who loved and cared for him. He
had a great sense of humor and made us all laugh. He was a real
jokester.
Funeral services will be held for Gary at 9 a.m. on Friday at Lietz-
Fraze Funeral Home with graveside services immediately following at Lake
Havasu Memorial Gardens.
