Mohave Valley Daily News, Mohave Valley, AZ - Published in Mohave Daily News Online from Sept. 16 to Sept. 23, 2014 - Larry Douglas Evans Sr., age 73, a 35-year resident of Fort Mohave Ariz., died Wednesday, September 3, 2014. He was born on June 6, 1941 in Paso Robles, Calif. Larry grew up in Manteca, Calif. He graduated high school in 1959 and joined the U.S. Navy in 1961. He was a Seabee MCB1 and scuba diver. After his honorable discharge in 1964 he worked construction and met and married his wife, Mary of 48 years in 1965. As a younger man, Larry was a thrill seeker. He enjoyed skydiving, bungee jumping and parasailing. He had been retired for 15 years as a boilermaker and was an active member of the American Legion Post 0087. Larry enjoyed puttering in the yard, football and NASCAR races. He loved his family and close friends, had a razor sharp wit and infectious laugh. Larry was a "man's man" and strong in his convictions. We will miss him dearly, but when we think of him, a spark of life will ignite his soul and rekindle fond, sweet memories. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Brown and Dean Evans; brothers, Phil and Richard. He is survived by his wife, Mary J. Evans of Fort Mohave, Ariz.; daughter, Tracey (Michael) Reynolds of Ely, Nev.; son, Larry Evans, Jr. of Fort Mohave, Ariz.; granddaughters, Kylie Manes of Las Vegas, Nev., Ashley (Matthew) Christenson of Jacksonville, N.C., and Madison Evans of Henderson, Nev.; and grandson, Kenneth Evans of Henderson, Nev.
