Charles Mark Carroll
Mark Carroll, a longtime resident of Springerville and the Show Low/Pinetop area, died Sept. 3, 2014, at the age of 73.
Originally from Massachusetts, his family moved to Florida’s Gulf Coast when he was a young boy. He later attended Florida State University where he studied hospitality management but also learned to fly the trapeze with the FSU Flying High Circus. After graduating, he managed several Red Lobsters throughout the State of Florida.
In the late ‘70s he moved to Seattle to manage The Brick Oven restaurant before moving to Phoenix in the early ‘80s. Once in Arizona, he turned his management skills to ownership. He owned and operated “Cal’s Lounge” in Phoenix, “Yesterday’s” in Springerville and “Phinius T’s” and “Hollywood and Wine” in Pinetop. He was fun-loving and never met a stranger. His generosity was felt by all he came in contact with and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his two sons, Scott (Kathy) Carroll of Tampa, Fla., and Sean (Amy) Carroll of Atlanta, Ga., and two grandchildren, Jack and Mackenzie. Many thanks to his close friends, Marcia Neal, Jack Kenan and Kerry Harris, for being there for him and making him feel so comfortable and loved in his final weeks.
A wake in his honor will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at the Lion’s Den for anyone that would like to come share their favorite Mark stories.
