Nancy Holcombe, age 67, peacefully passed away in Payson, Ariz. on Sept. 16, 2014 following a month-long illness.
Born in Champaign, Ill. to the late Gustav and Genevieve (Pert) Bertram, Nancy was raised near Homer, Ill., a central-Illinois farming town. She went on to attend Evanston Hospital School of Nursing.
While part of a gymnastic demonstration, she met Donald C. Holcombe, who was part of a U. S. Navy Blue Jacket Choir team. The couple later married in Homer, Ill. and began to relocate for Don’s work in the arts while Nancy cared for others through her nursing skills. Don’s graphic arts ability drew the couple to the Phoenix area in the 1970s where they raised their two sons, Rob and Ken.
In 1983, the family relocated to Payson where Nancy worked at the original Payson Hospital and Don worked at KMOG radio station. After her nursing work, Nancy worked at Payson’s Community Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Victor Joe. Later, Nancy worked with the Payson Roundup, along with her son Ken.
Nancy’s son Rob passed away Aug. 21, 2005 and just seven months later she lost Don on Feb. 10, 2006.
She is survived by her son, Ken of Payson and her two sisters, Paula Morris (Mike) and Meredith Riegel (the late Paul) of Illinois.
For those wanting to honor Nancy’s memory, her son Ken suggests contributing to and/or correcting information on Wikipedia. Nancy and Ken both enjoyed learning from that website. Contributions may also be made to the Rim Country Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 305, Payson, AZ 85547.
