Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Sunday, September 28, 2014 - John Melvin Mlekush, 68, passed away Sept. 21, 2014. He was born in Albuquerque, N.M. Aug. 30, 1946 to John and Lorene (Vaughn) Mlekush. John was raised in Albuquerque, N.M. He moved to Lake Havasu City in 1991. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed camping and gold mining. He was a member of the Gold Prospectors Association. John was a popular man, loved by many. He worked as a bartender at the Elks Lodge for 10 years and just loved talking to people. He knew practically everyone in town. He was one who “never met a stranger” and made friends easily. He loved trips to Laughlin, Nev. for gambling and enjoyed watching golfing events and horse racing. John is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Roxanna Mlekush, of Lake Havasu City; mother, Lorene Mlekush, of Edgewood, N.M.; son, Lou Gutowski, of Riverside, Calif.; daughters, Pamela Quinn, of Lake Havasu City and Robin Herschkorn, of Rio Rancho, N.M.; brothers, Jerry Mlekush, of Edgewood, N.M. and Jeff Mlekush, of Oklahoma City; mother-in-law, Ida Frizzell, of Lake Havasu City. John also leaves behind eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, as well as his beloved dogs, Yoda, Tee and Jasper. John is preceded in death by his father, John Mlekush. The family requests that nominal donations be made to the local American Cancer Society in John’s name. Arrangements were placed in the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
