Marie Shaw, age 93, a resident of Bullhead City, Ariz. passed away
peacefully on Friday, September 12, 2014 in Redding, Calif. She was born
on April 25, 1921 in Hammond, La.
Marie was the younger daughter of Olivia Scariano and Giacomo Impastato.
A quick student, she graduated from high school at fifteen. Marie, a
determined young woman, challenged the traditions of her generation
leaving the family home while still in her teens. She moved to
Harlingen, Texas and found work with Western Union. Here she would meet
the love of her life, Jack Shaw and shortly thereafter they married.
Marie moved to Fort Wayne, Ind. with Jack so he could take a job with
General Electric. The twins, Fred and Ed, and daughters, Sherry and
Debbie were born there. Shortly after Debbie's birth the family
relocated outside of Chicago until Marie and her family moved to Canoga
Park, Calif. An unusually independent woman, Marie went back to work,
first at Rocketdyne Corp. and later as a secretary for an accounting
firm.
Upon retirement, she and Jack moved full-time to Bullhead City, Ariz.
They lived an active social life as a part of the nearby Country Club.
She was a marvelous hostess and throughout her long life, her house was
always a focal point for neighbors and friends.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Jack and son, Edward.
She is survived by son, Fred Shaw (wife Lisa); daughters, Debbie Smith
(husband Harvey), Sherry Otto, and Georgia Shaw (widow of her deceased
son Edward); seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren in whose
lives she took an active interest.
We have lost a remarkable mother and friend.
She will be truly missed and thought of often.
