Arizona Silver Belt, Globe, Arizona, Wednesday, September 24, 2014 Alana Gay Haught, 67, passed away Sept. 10 due to injuries suffered in an auto accident in Aurora, Colo. She was the daughter of the late Hubert and Helen Louise Haught, and was born in Globe. Alana graduated from GHS in 1965, and from the University of Nevada-Reno in 1972. She studied in Stuttgart, Germany for one year with a Study Abroad Program. She married Mike Aitken in 1971 and is survived by one daughter, Kahualani Aitken; and one granddaughter, Pua Abrahams, both residents of California. Alana is also survived by one sister, Pamela Haught Stuart of Tucson, several nieces, nephews and many cousins. Alana lived for many years in Hawaii and worked for the POW project there. She was the daughter of the late Hubert and Helen Louise Haught, and was born in Globe. Alana graduated from GHS in 1965 and continued her studies in Flagstaff and Stuttgart, Germany before marrying Michael T. Aitken in 1971 and earning her BS in Education from the University of Nevada-Reno in 1972. Alana made her home on the Big Island of Hawaii for nearly 30 years, where she volunteered extensively with the Girl Scouts and PFLAG and was top in her field of Harm Reduction while employed by the State of Hawaii at the CHOW Project. She moved to Arizona to care for her mother until she passed in 2012; then devoted her last two years to nurturing her nephew back to health in Colorado. Alana was a story-teller, whistler, poet, homemaker, traveller, singer, dancer, scuba diver, comedian, repairwoman, adventurer, juggler, motorcycle rider, lover, friend, mother and jill of all trades. Alana lived her life fully and left a legacy as a generous volunteer, avid intellectual, exemplary employee, unfailing friend and fearless advocate for the underprivileged. Alana is survived by one daughter, Kahualani Louise Aitken; and one granddaughter, Puahaukea Blythe Abrahams, both residents of California. She is also survived by one sister, Pamela Haught Stuart of Tucson, and a substantial network of family and friends she ‘ohana (adopted as family) spanning the globe.
