Norvel Owens Mortuary, Flagstaff, Arizona Ollie Mae Cottrell (July 29, 1931 - September 25, 2014) Ollie Mae Cottrell, a loving, caring wife, sister, mother and grandmother, aunt and friend to so many was called home early morning on Thursday, September 25, 2014. She was born July 29, 1931 to Simmie and Mary Taylor Beckhum in McNary, Arizona. She served many years in her community as a faithful devoted Christian on the motherboard of 3 different churches. Her last home church being First Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend L.D. Marion and also Reverend Shirley Sims. Ollie was a very hard worker who didn’t mind helping others and standing up for what was right. She was a member if the Eastern Stars, Elks Lodge and NAACP. She believed that every child deserves a real education and would not settle for anything less than a diploma or better from each of her children, Grandchildren, nieces and Nephews. Ollie believe in the saying “Don’t start nothing you can’t finish.” And “You must give respect in order to get respect” and she demanded her respect. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, Arthur, Children Ruth Neal (Melvin), Thomas Turner, Valerie Smith (Kenneth), Yolanda Bell, Terria Blanton (James) Leon Ginn, Gwendolyn Smith (Stefan) Robert Cottrell (Carolyn), and a host of extended family members. Although she raised eight of her children she was also Mother to most of her grandchildren and hundreds of others that came to love, call and care about her for many years. She will be truly missed just as much as she was loved. Rest in Peace beloved Wife, Mom, Grandma and friend. Visitation will be Friday, from 6-8pm at Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E. Route 66. Services will be 10am Saturday at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church. Interment will conclude services at Citizens Cemetery.
