Virginia Bennett
Our mother passed away on Monday, Sept. 29, 2014, after an eight-month struggle with cancer. She was 76.
Virginia moved to Mesa, Ariz., with her family in 1953, from Ohio. She graduated from Mesa High School and attended Arizona State University.
The cabin community of Walker is where Virginia's love for the Prescott area began. Just after her marriage in Tempe to Dwight in 1958, they spent many weekends driving up from the Valley of the Sun to stay at their Tempe landlord's place in Walker, the cabin of Harry and Hazel Bennett (no relation).
By 1962, our parents built a cabin for themselves. But after five years and more than 300 trips between Tempe and Walker, they decided that it was best their growing family be relocated to Prescott, where their kids could live each and every day in the cool pines and fresh mountain air (we're sure glad they did!).
That happened in June 1967, and for the past 47 years, Virginia was an integral part of the Prescott community. She is particularly known for the accounting and tax service she owned and operated until her retirement in 2007 (her daughter Cyndi now runs it). Virginia prided herself on offering small businesses and individuals quality service at a reasonable price.
Virginia is survived by her mother Marjorie (101); two sisters; three children; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Everyone who knew Virginia is invited to a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2014, at the First Baptist Church, 148 S. Marina St., Prescott.
Time will be allotted time to share kind words about the experiences and relationships people had with Virginia through the years. Alternatively, you can email your words to be read aloud by a speaker at the service. Send to words@brycebennett.com
We hope as many as possible will join us.
From Virginia's children, Cyndi, Dennis, and Bryce.
