March 1, 1939 - September 13, 2014
Patricia Jane Logan Cornett passed away on September 13, 2014 at her home in Tucson, AZ.
She was born on March 1, 1939 in Denver, CO to Kenneth and Temple Dell Logan. She was raised in North Kansas City, MO. She attended the one room Minnieville Grade School and graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1957 in a graduating class of about 400. After highschool, she went to Park College in Parkville, Mo. for a year before attending Maryville State College in Maryville, MO. She graduated with a teaching degree in 1961. The very next day after graduation she married Buzz Doughtery. They moved to California and lived in several towns including Gridley, Yuba City, and Fairfield. Patty was a business education teacher for over 35 years in several schools in California. She retired in 2002 from Lindhurst High School in Marysville CA, where she had taught for close to 20 years.
After retiring, she reconnected with a long lost friend, Lynn Cornett. They married in 2002 and Patty moved to Tucson, AZ. She fondly called them the “Desert Rats.” She and Lynn have had 12 wonderful years together. Patty and Lynn met almost 40 years ago where Lynn and his first wife, Patty and her first husband all went to college together.
Patty’s life revolved around the Sweet Adeline Chorus where she was actively involved. She spent many years with the Yuba City Chapter and the Sacramento Chapter. She later became very involved in the Tucson, AZ chapter and cherished her time singing and performing with friends.
In addition to her involvement in Sweet Adelines, Patty loved to cook, sew, crochet, and needle point besides all the other crafty projects she would take on. She always had some project in the works. Recently she was sewing or crocheting baby blankets for the local hospital nursery. She spent many years volunteering at the Northwest Medical Center.
Another love for her was to visit the ocean, especially with her TM’s from the Sweet Adelines. Another love was her trips to Missouri and going to the Lake of the Ozarks. We have a family cabin there that she has been a part of and always enjoyed her trips there each summer.
Her Christian faith was always a big part of her life. Patty was an active member of the Foothills Community Church. She took on the job of Church Librarian besides volunteering in the office. In addition helping with all the special lunches, fund raisers, etc.
Patty leaves her beloved husband, Lynn Cornett, her sister Nancy Caruso (Joe) of St. Louis, MO and her brother, Bill (Marilyn) of Columbia, MO. She also is survived by her step children, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Ozark the cat will sorely miss her too. She also leaves behind her many many loving and devoted friends.
There will be a memorial service in Tucson on September 27th at 2:00pm at the Foothills Community Church, located at 3301 W. Overton Road Tucson, AZ. 85742. There will also be a memorial service in Missouri.
It will be on October 18th at 11:00 am at the North Kansas City Baptist Church located at 2205 Iron St. North Kansas City, MO 64116. Burial will be at the Salem Christian Union Church Cemetery, Excelsior Springs, MO.
