Pearl Laney Derrick, 91, died Sept. 25, 2014, in Alpine. She was born July 29, 1923, in Luna, N.M., where she lived most all of her life, except the last nine months.
Pearl loved to write poetry and the color yellow. She enjoyed reading and doing embroidery. She loved her family. She did a lot of genealogy and did extracting for her church family history for many years, which she enjoyed.
Pearl had a remarkable memory and could sit for hours telling story after story. She was a devoted church member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many callings in her lifetime: primary teacher, Sunday school teacher, relief society president and visiting teacher, to name a few.
Pearl will be remembered for her sweet, gentle spirit and will be missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Harold Schulz, Roland Schulz and Michael Derrick; eight grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; sister Sunny Allred; and brother Alvin Laney.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husbands, Otto Schulz and Andrew Derrick; son Ellis Schulz; grandson Ryan Craig Derrick; sisters Grace and Ila; and brothers Fred and Jack.
Funeral services were held Oct. 2 at the Luna Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Luna, N.M. She was laid to rest in the Luna Cemetery.
