Marion Constance Rohlfs, 85, passed peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 2,
2014, at home, under the care of the talented nurses and aides of
Hospice of Havasu. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on November 28, 1928,
to Stanley G. and Mary (Sidlauskas) Kalasinskas, Marion’s family sold
the farm and moved to Philadelphia when she was a teenager.
After high school, Marion worked as an AT&T switchboard operator, and met
her husband of 59 years, Henry Rohlfs, Sr. (Dec. Feb. 2, 2012). Their
first child, Mary Constance, was born in Miami Beach, Florida. After
moving around the country, the trio settled in Oakland, California. There
they were blessed with Henry Jr., Michael, and Elizabeth. Eventually,
the family relocated to Pleasant Hill, California, where they lived for
25 years.
Marion was generous with her time and talents. She combined her love of
arts and crafts with her passion for volunteering, organizing the other
parents at Elizabeth’s school to make trinkets for sale to support We
Care Day Treatment Center. She was also instrumental in the creation of
programs for disabled adults in Contra Costa County.
Marion worked in the Safeway Bakery, where she learned to decorate
cakes, and won several awards. She also supported her local Catholic
Church, creating a crafts group and Salad Bar Luncheon organization.
In 1994, Henry, Marion, and Elizabeth moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona,
to retire and fish. Elizabeth attended New Horizons Center, where Marion
requested that donations be sent in Elizabeth’s name, in lieu of
flowers.
Marion passed her talents to her surviving children, Mary, Henry, and
Michael, and their children, grandchildren, and “grandpets.”
No formal services will be held, per Marion’s instructions. “Just dig a
hole in the back yard and throw me in,” she said. Thoughts and
condolences may be submitted to the family at www.lietz-
