Donald Duane “Scottie” Scott, 87, of Lake Havasu City, died Sept. 30,
2014 of natural causes.
Scottie was born June 10, 1927, in Milford, Ind., to A.C. and Eva Mae
Scott, the third of four sons. According to Scottie, he had “the best
small town childhood anybody could hope for”. The whole town of Milford
helped raise the Scott boys.
In June 1945, near the end of WWII, he enlisted in the United States
Merchant Marines and served on supply ships throughout the world through
1947.
Scottie married Peggy Kathryn Williams, Aug. 27, 1950, in Nappanee, Ind.
Scottie was a salesman for the Armour Meat Company for seventeen years
and continued working in the food industry in northern Indiana before
founding Scottie’s Catering in Lake Havasu in 1969. He was exceptionally
proud of the fact that he helped to bring the London Bridge to Havasu by
feeding the men and women who built it. Scottie’s Catering thrived for
twenty years before his and Peggy’s retirement. Scottie was a much-loved
character, always armed with a gentle wisecrack or a surprise snowball
from the truck’s ice supply.
When he wasn’t working, Scottie loved cruising the lake with his kids
and grandkids on his pontoon boat “Scotts ’N Water”. He and Peggy
proudly celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this past August.
Scottie is survived by his wife Peggy and their three children, Jo Ann
(Spike) Evans, Jerry (Kim) and Janet (Bart) Wagner. Scottie was very
proud of his eight grandchildren, Niki, Erin, Jordan, Lindsay, Jake,
Ben, Abbey and Cady, and his six great-grandchildren, Addie, Ella,
Charlotte, Sonia, Peter and Lillian.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Forrest, Cleon and Frank and
by his great-grandson, Zach.
A service is planned for Scottie at 11 a.m., Oct. 18, at Mt. Olive
Lutheran Church.
Services were placed in the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
