OLSON, Thorolf Oscar


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Sunday, October 12, 2014 - Thorolf Oscar Olson, passed away Sept. 26, 2014 at the age of 89. He was born in Glendive, Mont. Aug. 22, 1925 to the late Thorolf and Hilda Olson. Thorolf, known to family and friends as “Thor”, grew up in Glendive. There he graduated from high school in 1943. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 and discharged in 1946, returning to Glendale. Thor and wife, Elaine Mac Arthur were wed at Zion Lutheran Church in Glendive, Mont. by Rev. Magnelson, Sept. 7, 1946. Thor attended Butte School of Mines in Butte, Mont. He later returned to Glendive in 1947 and worked for the N.P. Railroad until 1958. After retiring from Baker Oil Tools in May 1986, the Olson’s finally settled in Lake Havasu City. Thor was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, the Elks, VFW, and the American Legion. He loved woodworking and has created many beautiful bowls and pots. For over 50 years, Thor and Elaine enjoyed square and round dancing. Spending time with his grandchildren and great- grandchildren brought him great joy. Thor is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Elaine Olson of Lake Havasu City; children, Marta Ganes and Mark Olson, both of Lake Havasu City; brother, Gordon Olson of Chicago, Ill.; and sister, Audrey Olson Hood of Helena, Mont. He also leaves behind five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service for Thor will be from 2 to 5 p.m., Oct. 18, at 890 Fremont Lane, Lake Havasu City.
