Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Sunday, October 12, 2014 - Darwin Donald Airola, Jr. passed away in his sleep while on a business trip, Sunday, Oct. 5, 2014 at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Born to Darwin and Clothilda (Kriedel) Airola. He is survived by sister, Carol Zevodny (age 72); sons, Darwin Airola, III and Darren Airola; daughter-in-law Rejani Airola; niece, Debbie Walsh; nephews, Robert Render, Dennis Render, and Troy Zevodny; grandchildren, Cody Airola, Lillian Airola, Nessiyah Airola and Darwin Airola, IV; and his wife of four years, Karren Schmiechen whom he resided with in Fordsville, Ky. Darwin attended and graduated from Round Lake Senior High School. He enlisted in the National Guard (March to September 1962), transferred to the U.S. Army and served two years (Oct. 22, 1964 to Oct. 12, 1966), including one tour of duty in Vietnam where he was wounded and received the Vietnam Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Combat Infantry Man's Badge, the Good Conduct Medal and the Expert Rifle M14 Medal. Darwin married his first wife, Sherry (Eake) Airola, who bore him two sons, Darwin and Darren, when he worked at Union Station in Chicago in 1968. Darwin and Sherry moved to Oshkosh, Wis. where he worked as a salesman for radio station KFIZ in Fond Du Lac, Wis. He later became a police officer for the city of Round Lake Beach, Ill. (two years), the village of Lake Villa, Ill. (12 years), Round Lake Heights, Ill. and the city of Zion, Ill. (seven years). Darwin was also the marshall of the township of Old Mill Creek, Ill. Darwin later became a salesman, again, employing his two sons, Darwin, III and Darren, for a time in Illinois and continued in sales related businesses throughout his life. Darwin later lived in Lake Havasu City. At some point, Darwin met, accepted and started to serve the savior of humanity, Yehoshua Ha'Mashiach (aka Jesus The Christ), with whom he now resides in paradise. His phrase he would tell people in times of despair was, “Give it [all of your problems] to the Lord [Jesus Christ] and all will be good!” We love and miss you, dad, uncle, grandpa and friend to many!
