Melvin “Mel” Ray Farley Sr.
November 8, 1937 - September 21, 2014
Melvin Ray Farley Sr. was born Nov. 8, 1937 to the late George and Nancy Farley in Parkersburg, W. Va. In 1957 Mel married the love of his life, Roxie. They were married for 57 years and had three children. In 1969 Mel and his family moved to Arizona, then to Payson in 1979 where he retired from Qwest after 42 years.
Mel was a brother of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years and an avid hunter and fisherman. After traveling for 10 years, Mel and Roxie settled back in Payson in 2013 where he spent his final days surrounded by family and friends.
Mel went to live with Jesus on Sept. 21, 2014. He was completely devoted to his family, a self-made man and truly one of the smartest men we all knew; there was not a problem he could not resolve and we all went to him for answers. His smile was like no other; it could light up a room. Mel was loved by so many.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Roxie; was a loving father to Cindy Schnepp, Kathy (Gary) Brock and Melvin (Ginger) Farley Jr. (aka Butch); devoted grandfather of six grandchildren: Jason (Marissa), Andrea, Taylor, Jarrod, Catalina and Shannon; two great-grandsons, Jeremiah and Keelan; brother, Olis Farley; sister, Helen Blankenship; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 at the Sy Harrison Masonic Lodge, 200 E. Rancho Rd., Payson, AZ.
