The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona ~ 10/21/2014 Melissa Mary Pomeroy (Dickerson) Sweet Melissa Pomeroy (Lissy) was unexpectedly called to Heaven at sunset Oct. 15, 2014, to live among the angels. She was born April 14, 1966, in Tucson, where she resided for 22 years. Melissa graduated in 1988 from the University of Arizona with a degree in education. During her childhood, Melissa spent summer and winter vacations in Show Low, where she met her true love, Michael Pomeroy. Melissa resided in Show Low with her family since 1989. Melissa was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Karen Pomeroy. Melissa is survived by her husband of 25 years, Michael Pomeroy; daughter Haley and son Kyle. She is also survived by her parents, Vern and Shirley Dickerson; siblings Randye (Dwight) Ferrick, Mark Dickerson, Mack (Linda) Dickerson and twin Michelle Keith; father-in-law Charles “Mick” Pomeroy; sister-in-law Laurie (Shannon) Waite; stepson Brandon (Dixie) Fails; grandchildren Connor, Alyssa and Easton; and countless nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Lissy was an incredible mother to Haley and Kyle. She was so proud of Haley and her numerous academic and athletic accomplishments and was looking forward to being a grandmother soon. She was Haley’s No. 1 fan and friend. God gifted Melissa and Mike with a special needs child, Kyle, whose life and care Melissa was devoted to. She was his champion and advocate. “Mrs. Pomeroy” worked with the Show Low School District for over 25 years teaching elementary and special needs children. She took a personal interest in every student and maintained countless relationships with students into adulthood. Whether it was second, third, fifth grade, PE or special needs kids, “Mrs. Pomeroy” invested her heart and soul into mentoring and guiding her students. Lissy had a generous, caring heart and was kind to all. She was a healer, healing both people and animals. She never met a stranger or made an enemy. She stood up for everything she believed in and always got in the last word. She loved the art of conversation and would strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. She had a great sense of humor and her laugh was contagious. In addition to spending time with her family, Lissy loved her garden, fishing, hunting, her evening toddy and sitting under the apple tree with her parents. Melissa had many challenges in life that to many would be overwhelming but she never allowed them to affect her positive outlook and determination for her family’s happiness. A heartfelt thank you to the Show Low community, including the firefighters and especially Kyle’s nurse, Karen, and all the other nurses in Show Low who stepped up to take care of Kyle during this very difficult time. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Oct. 25, 2014, at Show Low Junior High School Auditorium, 500 West Old Linden Road. in Show Low.
