Thomas Eugene McKinney, 63, of Wickenburg, AZ, formally of Longmont, passed away on September 20, 2013 at his home.
Tom was born in Longmont, CO to Roy and Jean (Martin) McKinney on November 16, 1949. Tom grew up in Longmont and Jamestown and married his first wife, Penny O'Briant in Longmont. They had two sons, Troy McKinney and Blaine McKinney. They later divorced and he married Marlo Halley on September 3, 1997, they enjoyed 25 years together.
Tom spent over 20 years as a hard rock miner in Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming. After moving back to Longmont, he worked for the Boulder County Highway Department for 21 years, retiring from the county in 2010 due to ill health. Tom fought a very hard and courageous battle against lymphoma.
Tom loved fishing and going up to Black Hawk and to Nevada to the casinos to play video poker. His passion was his horses and team roping, which he was very good at, winning several saddles, belt buckles and money. He was a member of the Colorado Senior Pro Charity Rodeo Association; formerly the Old Timers Rodeo Association.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Jean.
Tom is survived by his wife Marlo of Wickenburg, sons Troy McKinney and Blaine McKinney of Longmont, CO, stepson Eric (Tracy) Lawing of Evans, CO, brother Tim (Connie) McKinney of Loveland, CO, sisters Patty (Chuck) Shannon of Canon City, CO and Rea Dawn (Charlie) Inman of Longmont, CO, brother-in-law Johnnie (Vickie) Halley of Frederick, CO, aunt Marylee Maberry of Aurora, CO, along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 2pm Friday, September 27, 2013 at Foothills Gardens of Memory. To honor Tom's request to "not have a funeral" a Wake will follow on Friday from 3 to 6pm at the Longmont Moose Lodge, 2200 Pratt St., Longmont. Please dress casually, feel free to wear your jeans.
