The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Sunday, November 02, 2014 Wanda Jane (Slawson) Carter, 93, passed away peacefully in her sleep in Peoria, Arizona, on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014. She was born on March 9, 1921, in Chandler, Arizona, to Byron and Matilda (Sorey) Slawson, and grew up on the Ahwatukee Ranch where her father was the caretaker. She was one of five children, with three sisters and a brother. She married Charles Albert "Al" Carter in 1946; Al passed away in November 1982. They had three girls, Carolyn (Ralph) Greco of Sacramento, California, Charlene (Dave) Myers of Camp Verde, Arizona, and Charlotte (Mike) Bain of Congress, Arizona. Al also had two sons, Jim (Ginger) Carter of Phoenix, Arizona, and Jack Carter of Gorman, Texas. Since Al worked in construction they lived in many different states, but Arizona was her home, retiring to the Del Rio Ranch in Chino Valley, Arizona. In the various churches they went to, she played the organ, sang in the choir and taught children's Sunday School as well as ladies' Bible studies. She was a light unto the Lord. Over the years, she loved animals, especially the many dogs she had in her life. She enjoyed reading, flower gardening, identifying different birds, and collecting purple glass, copper and antiques. She will be missed by her family and those who cared for her gentle soul in these latter years. We will enjoy remembering her and the special times we had with her. From her three daughters and two stepsons, she is survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wanda Carter will be inurned next to her husband, Al Carter.
