SENDEK, Sylvester D. (Syl)


Mohave Daily News, Mohave Valley, AZ - Published in Mohave Daily News Online from Oct. 26 to Nov. 2, 2014 - Sylvester D. Sendek, "Syl" as his friends knew him in Bullhead City, Ariz., passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the age of 93. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him" He was born July 8, 1921 in Sauk Rapids, Minn. He graduated from Foley, Minn. High School and went to work at the Foley Gamble-Skogmo Dealer Store. He then owned a Red Owl grocery store in Howard Lake, Minn. and was hired by the Gamble-Skogmo Company as a zone superintendent headquartered in Eau Clair, Wis. and was transferred to Gambles headquarters in Minneapolis, Minn. to be a buyer-merchandiser of fishing tackle, sporting goods and marine products. While with Gambles he fished in each of the 37 states where they had stores located. He left Gambles to be a factory representative of several jewelry companies and then retired in 1986. He and his wife Judy moved to Bullhead City, Ariz. in 1987. "Syl" and his sister Eleen were also country western entertainers in their early years. He is survived by his wife, Judy; son, Gary (Sandy); four daughters, Yvonne (Jerry), Sharon (Tom), Nancy (Wally), and Janelle (Jim), all five children living in Minnesota; twelve grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren. There are no funeral services planned and please, no gifts. Syl's final resting place is in Desert Lawn Cemetery in Mohave Valley, Ariz.
