BANGASSER, Bernard Francis (Bernie)


Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Wednesday, November 5, 2014 - Bernard "Bernie" Francis Bangasser, 84, passed away, Oct. 29, 2014 at home in Lake Havasu City. He was born July 11, 1930 in Sioux Falls, S.D. to Edward and Mary (Scanlon) Bangasser. Graduating from Cathedral High School in Sioux Falls in 1949, he went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1954, in the Korean War aboard the LSD Fort Marion. He married Patricia Phillips; June 16, 1956 in Santa Monica, Calif. Bernie was a loyal and devoted father, brother and friend. He loved his wife Patricia with his heart and soul; he loved his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. He loved being a police officer; following retirement, he continued his relationship with the department. Bernie belonged to the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and the Family Motor Coach Association. He made friends wherever he went and could talk for as long as you wanted. He taught his family so much; to love and serve others, to show respect and not demand it, to enjoy what God has blessed you with. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Bernie is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Patricia Bangasser of Lake Havasu City; children, Anne (Jerry) Ward, Teresa (Paul) Viau, Mary (Jose) Leon, Tom (Delia), Sharon McManus, Joe (Michelle), Elizabeth (Todd), Jim (Cindi), Cathy (Rob) McKenna, Edward (Laura) and Jeanne Dark; 37 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and six siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Rosary is at 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. A funeral mass is set for 11 a.m., Friday, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Interment follows at Lake Havasu Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Paralyzed Veterans of America, Our Lady of the Lake Soup Kitchen or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
