Marvin E Sedlacek passed on to be with our Lord on July 20, 2013. He was born to Edward and Viola Sedlacek on June 10, 1933, in Marysville, Kansas. He was the first of three children.
Throughout his early years, he lived within the communities of Waterville and Frankfort, Kansas. In 1952, he graduated from Waterville High School. As a young man, he worked on the family farm and after high school he began his employment with the Union Pacific Railroad and worked in Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska and Kansas. He was employed in other jobs and spent the majority of his work career with the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, Topeka, Kansas for 38 years. Taking great pride in his appearance was a fine character asset of Marvin's. In addition to this, from a personal standpoint, he was meticulous in whatever task he had before him.
He remembered only the positive things in life and wished everyone the best. He will be fondly remembered and surely missed by so many that he touched during his life time. Marvin was willing to share his knowledge and expertise in gardening, handiwork and fishing/hunting as this was important in his life. He gave unselfishly and never expected anything in return. In his spare time, he could be found riding on his Ford tractor or mowing on rural property where he would have liked to live. Other interests were learning more about the Native American Indian culture. Marvin enjoyed traveling and one of the highlights was a trip to the Holy Land and New York City in November 2011.
This past May he spent time in Phoenix and Wickenburg, Arizona to visit family and friends. He lived the past six winters in the far south Texas Gulf. While there, he did volunteer church work, played golf, made new friends and played table games and will be remembered as the score keeper.
Recently, he received his 25 year membership pin from the Topeka Arab Temple Shrine. Within that organization, he actively volunteered with two groups. One was the Provost Guard and he was always willing to help where needed. The other group was the Hospital Dad's Club and he volunteered as a driver to take children and their family member to St Louis Shriner's Hospital in St Louis, Missouri. For several years, he made the most trips to this hospital which at times required him to stay over a night or two. Additionally, Marvin served in the Blue Lodge #90, Topeka, Kansas for past several years.
Marvin is survived by his wife Helen of the Hoyt, KS home and others include daughter, Debra Stadel, Wickenburg, AZ, son Brad (Mary) Sedlacek, Tecumseh and daughter, Melody (Todd) Weller of Tecumseh. Other survivors are his brother, Ivan (Jane) Sedlacek, Frankfort, and sister, Sharon (Richard) Barnes of Maple Hill. He had seven grandchildren and three great grand children. His step children are son, Charles Cornelius, Ottawa, son, David (Barbara) Cornelius, Berryton and daughter Carrie Cornelius of Tecumseh and two step grand children.
Per Marvin's wishes, cremation is planned. In lieu of the flowers, the family prefers donations to be made to the American Cancer Society by calling 1-800-227-2345 or online www.cancer.org. To celebrate Marvin's life, a private family memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 9:30am. Information to follow concerning place. Pastor Anthony Divers of the Inward Faith Outreach Ministry Church, Topeka, KS will officiate.
