Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Thursday, November 6, 2014 - Melvin L. Morgan, age 98, of Lake Havasu City, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014. Melvin was born Oct. 28, 1916 in Crowell, Texas. He is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lee Roy Morgan. He married Ethel Lynn Dillard in Childress, Texas in 1935. Melvin was employed with North American Aviation and later moved California in 1942 where he enlisted in the Navy. During his time in the Navy, Melvin was stationed in Norfolk, Va. where he boarded the USS Radford DD446. In 1944, Melvin was sent to New Jersey were he was stationed on a new ship, the USS Heylinger DE510. Melvin enjoyed his free time horse racing, bowling and fishing. Melvin is survived by nieces and nephews, Rick and Barbara Smuck of Long Beach, Calif.; Lyle and Patricia McCowan of Lake Havasu City; Mike and Susie Martin of Lake Havasu City; Carol Froom of North Carolina; David Dillard of St. George, Utah; and David and Jeannette McCowan of California; cousins, Carolyn and George Morgan of Lake Havasu City and Bryant and Carolyn Thompson of Crowell, Texas. He is also survived by Traci and Joe Juliano; and Preston and Denise Dillard of California. Melvin is preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Morgan; parents and older siblings. Services will be at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home - Chapel, 21 Riviera Blvd., Lake Havasu City, Friday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m. Burial will be at Rose Hills Memorial Garden, 3888 Workman Mill Rd., Whittier, California 90601, Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 10:30 a.m. Services were placed in the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory.
