Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted: Saturday, November 8, 2014 >>> Donald Edwin Kelchner <<< >>> 1928 — 2014 <<< Our dear father, grandfather, friend, and companion, Don Kelchner, passed away Sept. 8, 2014. Born in Santa Ana, Calif. to Roy and Mae Kelchner, he grew up with one brother, Robert "Buck" Kelchner. Don graduated from Santa Ana High School in 1945. In 1946, he joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged as a technician fifth grade in 1948. After the Army, Don attended Santa Ana College and then graduated from UCLA in 1955 with a B.A. in business. While attending UCLA, he was a member of the California Delta chapter of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was married to Rosemarie O'Banion from 1959 to 1981 and they resided in Villa Park, Calif. where they raised their two sons. Don retired from Rockwell International in 1988 and moved to Lake Havasu City. During his time in Lake Havasu City, he was a member of the Lake Havasu City Elks and enjoyed meeting with friends at the old Sundowner Restaurant and recently the Golden Phoenix Chinese Restaurant. He spent his last years between Lake Havasu City and Carson City, Nev. with his loving friend and companion, Patricia Perry and her family. Don is survived by son, Darren, (wife Lori Gabany) and their sons Dalton and Austin of Scottsdale; son, Matthew, (wife Marilyn) and their son and daughter of Santee, Calif. The memories of Grandpa Don will be cherished in our hearts forever.
