WINTER, Lis

The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona, Sunday, November 09, 2014 Lis Winter, 88, passed peacefully on Wednesday evening, Oct. 29, 2014, at New Horizon's Adult Care Home in Prescott Valley. Lis led a quiet life and enjoyed reading and classical music. Her many friends were also an important part of her day. She enjoyed animals, including pets ranging from dogs and cats to parrots, chickens and goats. During her more than 40 years in Prescott, Lis volunteered her time at the Heritage Park Zoo, the Prescott Public Library and the Prescott Chamber of Commerce. She enjoyed spending time exercising in the pool with friends at Yavapai College. Lis was also an accomplished stained glass artist. Born in 1926 in Copenhagen, Denmark, to Oda and Otto, Lis came to this country on her own in 1950 and became a U.S. citizen a few years later. She married her husband Leo in 1957 and had one son, Peter. Lis was a strong-willed, determined woman and did things her way. She held those virtues to the very end. Lis is survived by her son Peter and grandson Aaron. Honoring her wishes, there will be no service. With thanks to New Horizons Adult Care Home and the many visits from all of her friends, Lis' passing was comfortable and gentle. She will be missed. Information provided by survivors.
