Owen H Golden, 91, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Friday, Nov 15, 2013, at Golden Living Center, East Mountain, where he had been a resident since 2010.
Born in Avoca on Jan 22, 1922, he was the son of the late Owen H and Mary A (Gay) Golden. He was a graduate of Avoca High School and received a degree in accounting from The University of Scranton.
Owen was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served during World War II in both Pacific and European theaters. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and Soldiers Medal for courage and bravery. Owen also served in the Korean War.
He was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish, Avoca, the Pennsylvania Junior Drum and Bugle Corps as a youth and Holy Family Parish Knights of Columbus, NJ.
Prior to retiring in 1986, he was employed in the accounting division of Agway in Syracuse, NY.
Owen was an avid reader. He enjoyed playing tennis, ice skating, bicycling and doing crossword puzzles. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Catherine A "Kate" Clifford, who passed away on Feb 17, 2004; and sisters, Henrietta DeMartino, Mary Clifford, Helene Petrullio, Ethel Golden and Joan Johnson.
Surviving are his son, Owen J "Chip" Golden, Austin, Texas; daughters, Patricia Bradshaw, Sun City, Fla., Geraldine Golden, Nine Miles Falls, Wash., and Rosemary Golden, Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren Amy, Paul Lauren and Nick; a brother, James Golden, Wickenburg, Ariz; a sister Elizabeth "Betty Jane" Queeney, Las Vegas; sister-in-law, Theresa Lokuta, Avoca; several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Saturday in Queen of the Apostles Parish, Avoca. The Rev Phillip Sladicka will officiate. Interment will follow in St Mary's Cemetery, Avoca. Friends may call from 9am until Mass at the church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kniffen O'Malley Funeral Home, 728 Main St., Avoca.
