Arizona Daily Sun, Flagstaff, Arizona, Tuesday, November 11, 2014 Alvin Fritz, 81, died Nov. 8, 2014, in Flagstaff. Visitation will be Friday at 9 a.m., followed by services at 10 a.m., both at First United Methodist Church in Winslow. Greer's Mortuary of Winslow is handling the arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~ Greer’s Mortuary of Winslow, Winslow, Arizona Alvin Fritz June 26, 1933 - November 08, 2014 Alvin Edward Fritz, 81, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2014. He was born June 26, 1933 to Eddie and Hester Fritz. He is survived by sons Kevin (Betty), Bill (Nora), and Eddie (Diane); grandchildren Michael, Thomas, Andrew & Katie, and many wonderful extended family members. He was preceded in death this May by his wife of 56 years, Markette. Alvin graduated from Clifton High School, Arizona State University (BA) and Northern Arizona University (MA). He served four years in the US Navy between high school and college. Alvin taught math at Winslow High School from 1961 to 1990 (always a Bulldog!) and for many years at Northland Pioneer College. He also worked many summers for the United States Forest Service as a tanker operator and at the airport slurry base. Alvin enjoyed teaching and coaching and took great interest in his students. He loved the outdoors, sports, time with family, and sharing conversation and humor with friends. Until physically unable the past few years, he could be found annually at the Doc Wright wrestling tournament. After over 50 years in Winslow, Alvin lived the last year and a half at the Peaks in Flagstaff. Services for Alvin will be held Friday, Nov. 14, 2014 at 10:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Winslow. Visitation will begin at the church at 9:00 AM.
