Helen Osen, 90, of Livingston, Mont., died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at the Diamond-K Lodge with her loved ones at her side. She was born May 7, 1924, in Reed Point, Mont., the youngest of eight children of Norwegian immigrants.
Helen was raised on the family ranch and graduated from high school in 1942 and then attended Anderson Beauty College in Billings. Mont.
She married Tom Osen Oct. 26, 1946, in Big Timber, Mont., and they made their home in Livingston, Mont. Helen worked at the Sanitary Beauty Shop until the arrival of her first child, Tommy, in 1955.
Helen was a devoted wife, loving mother, and special grandmother. Her seven grandchildren cherished their time with her and will remember her forever.
In 1967 they built on their “5 Acre Tract” Osen’s Drive Thru Campground. They owned and operated the campground from 1968 until 1998. Many lifelong friendships were made from the countless campers that stayed weeks on end, planning to spend just one night.
Helen enjoyed crafts of all kinds. She liked to crochet, knit and sew and from her sisters she learned to master hardanger. Helen also enjoyed baking and cooking for her family, friends and church functions. She always grew an enormous garden and picked raspberries every season by the gallons.
Helen was a member of American Lutheran Church, Mountain Swinger Square Dance Club, Park County Pioneer Society and Livingston Red Hats.
She is survived by two sons, Tom (Patti) of Eagar and Don (Annette) of Bozeman. Mont.; daughter Kathleen of Bozeman. Mont.; seven grandchildren, Thomas, Dawnette, Mariette (Ethan) Rintoul, Juliette, Allan, Giovann and Timothy; sisters-in-law Helen Mysse, Barbara Osen and Sally Severin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Tom, Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Ragnhild (Randy) Mysse; three brothers, Donald, Jack and Robert Mysse; and four sisters, Ella Hillard, Kristine Solberg, Dorothy Langhus and Agnes Vink.
To accommodate family travel, a memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at the American Lutheran Church in Livingston, Mont. Pastor Steve Paugh Leuzinger will officiate.
Helen’s family expresses their sincere thanks and gratitude to the staff at the Diamond K Lodge for their care and compassion for Helen these past two years and to Livingston Healthcare’s Hospice in her final hours. “Blessed are we.”
