Kingman Daily Miner, Kingman, AZ - Published on November 14, 2014 - Dr. David H. "Doc" George, retired Kingman optometrist, died at Joan & Diana Hospice Home on Friday, Nov. 7, 2014, at the age of 76 due to complications with Parkinson's Disease. George was born in Holdenville, Okla., on May 2, 1938, to parents Ed and Jeanette George and older brother John. He graduated from Holdenville High School, then enrolled at the University of Oklahoma, receiving a bachelor of science degree. While in high school in Oklahoma, George made the All-State team in football and lettered three years in basketball and track. George then attended Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn., graduating in 1962 with a degree in optometry. After serving four years as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, George moved to Kingman in 1965 and began practicing optometry at Mohave Eye Centers. George served on the Kingman City Council as vice mayor, on the Mohave County Board of Health as president and on the District No. 4 Health Planning Council. George was an active member of the Kingman Rotary Club, held a commercial pilots license with multi-engine, instrument, and flight instruction ratings, and was an avid tennis player. Preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Jeanette George, and his beloved brother, Dr. John George, George is survived by his wife, Chris George; sister-in-law, Dr. Treva George; children, Curtis Cutshaw (Kathy), David G. George (Susan), Lisa George Branch and Jeffrey George (Laurie); grandchildren, TJ, Tanya, Keenan, Rylan and Thomas; and long- time friend Tim Blackwood. George will be remembered for his love of his family, kindness for his patients, his good-natured frankness and his irreverent sense of humor.
